The transmission is apart and I'm taking the case to my buddy's shop today to use his cleaning machine. I've continued reading and came upon this article:
http://www.montecarloss.com/SSThunder/drivetrain.html
It's a long article, so here's the info I'm interested in: In the section entitled "700R4 Overhaul Tips" it says I should do the following because my trans came from behind a V-6 (1991, 4.3L):
1) Replace the 3-4 apply fingers in the aluminum drum with the V-8 version (allows 1 more clutch & steel).
2) Remove the aluminum plate & top overrun steel plate from the forward clutch and replace with V-8 version (allows 1 more forward clutch & steel).
3) Replace the reverse input piston with a shorter V-8 version (allows 1 more clutch & steel).
Is this necessary? (I haven't taken the subassemblies apart yet, so I don't know how many clutches are there.)
I'll post more pics once I find out how to make them larger.
