I don't know if you have the work environment that can support it, but if you have a "dirty" area where you can work, I can tell you an excellent way.

Put the parts on sawhorses and coat them liberally with dollar store cheap oven cleaner. Let it sit 15 minutes or so then respray it with another coat. After another few minutes, hose it off with a garden hose. On real nasty stuff like that rearend, you will probably need to let it dry and repeat the oven cleaner deal again. Perhaps a few times, but it will get it clean. This method is cheap and easy, as long as you have patience to walk by it every so often and spray it again and wait for the chemical to do the work for you.
