I am using a Harbor Freight welder. I realized at some point that my speed was too high and did slow it down, although possibly not enough. I also got into the predicament that once I had all the globs in there, I did not have the room to get a grinder in and remove them. When I cranked the heat up, it melted some of the old ones away which worked well.
The support seems to be decently in place now on that side (I hope).
Thanks for the help and the tips. I appreciate it. I'll try and slow down a bit tomorrow evening.
