I remember reading somewhere the water inlet wasn't super critical except it helps with warming the air/fuel mixture in the manifold, so it can be addressed later. But I haven't done it, but I know its already been answered here somewhere. Good Luck!
Actually water heating is fairly critical pending on what climate you live in.
