72s had the ones pictured, other years had more of a inverted ferrule look, if you flared a piece of tubing, that would be the look....

Dunno about leaving them out, but these doors have extra reinforcement in other locations that pick up doors do not. So, i would put them back, it would suck if you got stress cracks on a newly painted truck.

I think they are there for rigidity. But, i m not an engineer from GM, so what i say doesn t matter
