To answer your questions I used 3M mico polishing compound with a machine.
Amazon.com: 3M 06044 Imperial Compound and...But I must warn you this is an original cluster lens. I had two. The other one was a repro and it buffed the lettering right off of it.
I was going to reset the speedo but couldn't figure out how. I actually increased the mileage! It doesn't really matter to me as the engine and trans are not new.
