Les - not sure on the mount location (anecdotally the V6 is just a V8 with the front two cylinders lopped off, which would imply the mounts are in the same location from the rear face of the block).

The braces are to counteract a powertrain "beaming" mode, and provide more support across that engine/bell housing interface.
