I had to pull the seat out first on my '68 C/10. I find this part takes 2 guys. If it still has the cardboard behind the seat, pull that. Then disconnect the fuel level sender wire [Brown]. Remove gas cap. Siphon the gas out of the tank. Remove seat belts. Disconnect any fuel feed hoses at the bottom. ['72s have an additional return line, or vapor line, I think, '68s have just the one.]
Now you can get to the tank itself. Mostly, it's bolted to the cab floor. Remove these bolts, and it should come free. Pull from the passenger side up and away, while your buddy shoves the filler neck down thru the grommet.

With the seat out, you can work on your slide mechanism.
