Well I guess to answer your question the 327 left something to be desired as far as tq and power it did ok once it got rolling and got 10mpg towing the airstream
Changing from 3:73 to 3:42 didnt help with towing but if you take into account my rear tire size of 27" that makes the 3:42 comparable to a 2000+ truck with 4:10s
The big hills even splitting the gears with the gv I would loose about 10 mph on a hill. It was work dropping and splitting gears so the LQ4 should help alot
