I don't think the hub cap looks that bad. After all, you aren't building a show truck.
I had to notch the cross member under my bed to clear the tank as well. It is a pain in the ass with the bed on the truck. Next time I have the bed off I will clean it up a little and plate the inside of the channel to get a little strength back.
