Maybe I am missing something in your pic, but can you pop the cable assembly out of the square hole near the valve cover and snap it into one of the other square holes to put it closer to the carb? Like the hole that has the green wire going through it? Or the other one? Or unbolt the unused bracket and bolt the new bracket into that spot. Seems like the bolt holes should line up?
