I was at an airfield today w/ similarly shaped (sort of half circle or quanset) hangars and found the modular construction (lots of angle iron) interesting.
I've read they make similar structures by laying a sort of fabric over a form and watering it. The fabric is concrete based and cures creating a strong structure.

From what i can tell, They are made of 5 thin strips of wood glued and steamed together.
