Re: remote starter

install a remote solenoid on the fender well/firewall and convert your GM starter to a one wire operation, simple to do..
  • at the starter, install a 12ga jumper from Batt lug to S terminal
  • mount solenoid where it's accessible and out of harms way
  • run B+ cable from battery to secondary side of solenoid [large lug]
  • run battery cable from other secondary side of solenoid down to Batt lug on starter
  • run start signal from ignition switch to S lug on primary side of solenoid
  • run 12ga ground wire to either mounting tab of solenoid from solid ground or B- [solenoid mount is its ground]
  • if running points ignition, run original wire going to I term on starter solenoid to I term on remote solenoid
I typed that out without using the word f o r d but that is the common name of the type of solenoid you'll need

remote start/bump over engine with handheld thumb switch by jumping B+ secondary lug or B+ at the battery to the primary S lug..

this is also popular conversion for folks with headers, eliminates live B+ cable running down there except while cranking..

also pulls the B+ running to vehicle fuse box/distribution panel up from the starter to safer and accessible location in engine compartment..

this is certainly one design aspect advantage f o r d had over GM

search 'convert GM starter to remote solenoid' for more info..

good luck!

looks something like this;
