Being from the southwest, any vehicle with rust is a no sale. You might have $1500 in salvageable parts. Typically, a vehicle does not rust out in only one spot. Most likely, rocker panels, body mount brackets, etc. will have at least some rust - but you will find out when you see it. Of course, if you are an experienced body man, then it doesn't matter. Proper body work is expensive to buy.

If you check craigslist in southwest cities you will see lots of square bodies for sale. The best ones are pricey, but a lot of them are rust free and worth an investment of more dollars. I always figure that an old vehicle will need a lot of money spent on repairs. A lot of these old trucks have already had a lot of parts replaced and then the owner gave up when a major failure like an engine or transmission happened.

If you plan to flip it with no additional money invested that might work if you are willing to wait for a buyer.
