Re: Help with air cleaner/ valve covers!

This might help a little. Mine is a carb system. Guessing a bit on OP hoses as no sizes were included.

3/8" hose from drivers side to front of carb base. Connects to the Positive Crankcase Ventalation(PCV) valve. Guessing is Hose #1 in first post but could be #3.

Larger hose, roughly 1", from air cleaner housing to passenger side cover. Air filter side of PCV system. Connects to a small air cleaner inside the main air cleaner housing. Guessing Hose 2 from first post.

A normal PCV system pulls air into one side of block through the air breather filter and sucks it out of the opposite side through the PCV valve. The small air filter is inside the main filter housing to handle cases where there is too much blow by for the PCV valve to handle. That allows any excess fumes to be sucked into the carb/tbi and burned with the normal fuel/air mix.

You REALLY want to keep a functional PCV system. It does a lot to keep your engine oil moisture free and is also one of the most effective emissions systems with minimal performance impact. Removal can harm performance as the system is tuned for the extra air.
