On the narrowing of the 14 bolt, after cutting the axle tubes and welding the tubes together using 90 degree angles welded to tubes to keep them straight, I used the cut sections, cut them in halves and then used them as a patch and welded them over the cut area for additional support. It doesn't look pretty but I like the added support. Originally, I was planning to find sections of round tube to slid over the cut area like sleeves but I couldn't find anything with the exact ID diameter. Unfortunately those are the lost pictures.
