Just got off the phone with Georgia from tanks inc. Here is what she said almost word for word.

The tank was designed to be installed to the bottom side of the frame. There are no straps or additional support required as the flange was designed to hold the weight of the tank, fuel, and components installed. You can install it in between the frame rails or even on top but it was designed to be hung from the bottom side of the frame rail with 2 bolts on each side.

She said to use 3/8 or larger to secure the tank
