Wiper motor seal

I had this wiper motor out to bench test a new washer pump. Looks like the cowl seal may have been nothing more than RTV. Any advice on re-sealing?

Edit: I just did a google search and found several different styles of seals. So my new question is which style have you had success with?

And I also see where that's a seal on the shaft. Shoulda looked closer before I posted this!
