Take the door panel off and look.

It sounds to me like the cable snapped. Everything is "one piece" inside the door and there really isn't much of a way to repair it, just replace it. I broke my PS window this winter (tried to open it when it was frozen, my stupid fault) and got one off ebay for $40, and had it installed in 30 minutes.
