hey guys, i know its a super old thread, but chevy tech seems to have alot of information on these trucks and I'm hoping he will chime in..

My truck is a 98 GMC 4x4 1500 equiped with ABS brakes.

the ABS light is not on.. but when i stop every once in a while the abs will come on and limit braking even though the wheels are not skidding or locked up. I mean literally under a normal stop at a stop light the abs will just randomly start making noise and feel in the pedal, and the truck will all but stop braking completly. really scary.

I have simply pulled the fuse out for the ABS in the fuse panel and now the light has come on..

what could be causing this problem?
why would there be no lights on at all and the abs be coming active on dry pavement?

any help or tips would be appreciated.
