I used an Excalibur 00 and 1 shot (what else?). I always pallet up on an old catalogue as the paper is ideal for loading your brush and you can just tear off the page for the next clean sheet. (It also has the added advantage of becoming quite interesting when you get the underwear section

It's not perfect, none of my stuff ever is, but as Rian said it's better than rattle can black and a couple of stickers.
