Ok good I'm not crazy. It was a while since I changed mine but I dont recall having much difficulty.
As for attaching the felt whiskers, on mine I just used 3M double sided tape to hold it them to the window trim. I was not sure how to re-staple them on. They have held fine using the double sided tape.
