This is a common misconception. Straight dump 2.5 ram horns clear fine. I put them on every 67-72 I built over the past 20 years. 2x4, 4x4. Now with that said, the kick backs do allow for less of a bend at the start of the exhaust pipe and i will certainly give them a try on one of my next builds!.
