I installed a new water heater 26 years ago and never looked back. Removed the free standing natural gas fired water heater and installed a storage tank that is heated from my boiler. One less exhaust stack, increased efficiency (the efficiency is better with my boiler), almost endless hot water (have daughters), my boiler doesn't go offline during summer months so i don't end up with fall no heat issues, lifetime warranty on storage tank, etc. Costs are higher up front but cheaper in the long run.
