It definitely helps, especially if you live in hot areas. If you only stay in the "Sunny Seattle" area, then you probably don't need it too often. If you head to eastern WA, it's definitely nice to have.
But it will take some effort getting it running again. Depending on condition, you may have to replace the lines that go back there. If you want the AC to work, both front and back are tied together (if I recall correctly). If you want to eliminate the rear, you'd have to get new front hoses too, without a tee.
In any case, to get the AC working, it will take some money. Any you'll want to convert over from the old R12 system. That refrigerant is hard to get and expensive now.
