Like it was said above, I'm more concerned with the braking then the power. Whether you get a 1500 or 2500 I would highly recommend you find one with those options if you can.
Never heard of an engine brake on a gas job. I have one on my Cummins and the Cat . Most gas engines when in tow mode just downshift to slow the truck and trailer.
