It's easy to go down a rabbit hole doing an LS swap, but worth it in my opinion. It will nickel and dime you for sure though. It's not as simple as buying a dropout engine/trans and turning the key - there are systems that have to be modified or updated to work with the LS - electrical, fuel, coolant, brakes, gauges, AC. If you can get good money for your big block and don't mind spending $6k or more, go for it.
