Big wheels on duallies started with milled 19.5s back in the late '90s. 19.5, 22.5 adn 24.5 tires can only be had in fairly large sizes meant for the big trucks. Those huge sizes just wouldn't work or look right on a slammed dually. Some guys in the late '90s had the idea to mill 1/4" off of the bead of the wheel to end up with a 19" wheel. (1/4" removed from the entire circumference of the wheel reduces the diameter by 1/2") Now, with the 19" wheel, low profile 19" tires could be fitted to work on the slammed duallies. The natural progression from there was to move on to doing the same thing with 22.5 and 24.5" wheels.
