I just replaced a 20 year old exhaust(sat for 10 years in the garage) which had 40 Series Flowmasters. I too was over the 40 Series drone.

I replaced with the Magnaflow SS system 16643.

I am very happy with the Magnaflow system.

It was quite challenging as far as installation, but the it really quieted down the exhaust noise in the cab.

I cannot address what it sounds like out of the truck during acceleration, but I am very pleased.

Engine is a stock 305, 258hp with rams horn manifolds. Downpipes are 2" aluminized steel.

Original system was 2 1/4" true duals...no H or X pipe.

New system is 2 1/2" with an X pipe.

I seem to have better low end acceleration and a bit more top end speed.
