Hadn't been back to this thread in awhile and when i first saw this shot i immediately thought you intended to mount '59 Impala taillights in the panel. They might be too big but maybe you could find a way to mimic the chrome trim on a smaller scale? Just an idea, definitely NOT criticizing.
