biggest thing is you need to cut it back to some solid metal...take your time welding...use only spot welds...don't try to weld a bead...make sure of all your alignments before you start welding...your joints butt welded are best, although I have seen people do lap welds...if you've never welded sheetmetal before its a new experience...
