Could be a belt alignment issue. Look at the P/S pulley and make sure it is flush with the end of the pump shaft. I've seen some that had moved out a fraction of an inch and caused a noise. If that looks good, remove the belt and try to pull the pulley out of the pump. Seen a couple that the shaft had broken inside the pump and would come out at times.
