I hear what your saying about wanting to be a bit more hot rod style. I had/have that 305 in 3 diffrent trucks that I own and it was never a quick thing but once it got rolling it would tool down the road pretty good. I used to drive a 61 GMC 3500 that started off (with me) delivering cordwood and she would roll down the hiway 70 with a load on. One time I had her chained to something that wouldn't pull and that truck grabbed traction and stood up on the rear wheels. I swear that thing had the torqe to pull a house down. My 67 camper cruiser has that engine and I liked driving that just fine too it was a smooth running rig. It had really high rear end gearing,not sure about the ratio, but you actually could drive first gear on the road. If you took off in second it would struggle a bit sometimes as it was a little to high. I thought it was funny,You used the term big block V6 ,people would see that V6 when you were checking the oil at a gas station and think it was a big block V8.
