Attention to details is a great way to put it.
I'd like to add that an epoxy is designed to not only prevent corrosion unharmed, but it is also designed to prevent rust "creep" when harmed. That is to say that once scratched off, the steel will rust, but won't spread under your paint job.
Now if you have a deeper scratch that goes through body filler, you've likely got a situation that needs attention sooner than later anyway.
