It not just amps and volts but time as well. If you really want to know, buy or borrow a Kill-A-Watt meter and use the KwH button for a week. Multiply that number by 52 then your cost per KwH to get your yearly cost.

I think a lot of the newer efficiency is really better/thicker insulation. When I replaced a noisy old 80s era kitchen fridge, it had about 1 inch of insulation. The new one looks to have about 2~3 inches. I think the really old ones had better insulation then the ones from the 70s and 80s.
