Re: Retro Sound Radio Install Help (1950 Chevy)

I just did an install in my 53 pickup.
The model 2 is the one I used, with the face plate
for the curved 53 dash.

I could not get the tuning shafts to stick thru correctly.
The face plate and mount brackets don't allow enough
adjustment for the holes in the face plate bracket to come
out at the correct angle. If you do keep the correct angle,
then they won't stick out enough. The holes in the face plate
aren't even the right angle! The little angle brackets they
supplied were supposed to be adjustable but I found them to
be a nightmare.

I trimmed off both sides of the face plate where the holes
are, and made my own rear L-bracket. It allowed the stems to stick
thru more than enough. I also just mounted the tuning head in
the dash. The rest I mounted behind the seat. This required buying
the 9 foot extension they sell.

Also, if you are using the chromed knobs, you may need to clean up
the inside bore where they slide onto the shafts. Mine were overfilled
with chrome and would not slide on easy. I used a tiny screw driver and
carefully scraped out the excess until they slid on snugly but gently.

Good luck!
