After double-checking the master cylinder - to - booster rod clearance, and the rest of the brake linkage, I added some nuts/spacers between the firewall and the brackets, which gained me 1/4", so now the booster rod has 1/8"clearance to the firewall.

And there's a rubber boot in there to seal the firewall.
