Guys, thanks for the replies on this.
I picked up some 3M Scotch Brite pads on the weekend so when the weather breaks I'm hoping to get in there and take this on.
I can see how the area of the bed would be a pain in the butt for someone to paint....given the boxed in perimeter limiting the ability to reach and spray, etc.
Luckily..I'm not after anything that is show quality....so it doesn't have to be glassy smooth either in the prep or the final paint.
Here are a few pics of the truck and the box....and the truck in (light duty) 'action', lol.
Again, the truck is in really nice shape overall...with a very solid dry california history.
The outer paint tho'...is getting pretty tired and thin and its starting to be a 40 ft'er rather than a 20 ft'er....given the paint deterioration.
