well I don't have to remove it. ..but as you see in the pics its cracked and coming loose in a few spots...I just didn't want to put something over it only to have the original break loose underneath it...is there something wrong with putting lizard or por15 inside the door?..those bare spots you see in that one pic I didn't remove. .those pieces were laying in the door cavity...that's why I say it might turn loose..
