I'll try to get some pics tonight and post them. I actually used a metal grinding bit on a small 90 degree die grinder to do it. You have to tape the surrounding area up with 3-4 layers of painters tape just incase the bit slips, you don't want to mark up the mirror bracket. Just take your time and be patient when doing it.

Here's a pic of the type of grinding bit I used. I suppose a Dremel and bit would work also.
