Re: Saddle color trucks

Jon. I was 6 years old and a first grader when we picked up my Dad's brand new 66 Custom Cab big window long box 283 pickup in September 1965.The dealer in town ordered it to dad's specs code 555 saddle gold off white. The day we picked it up they had it inside the basement of the dealership because it was before the showing date of the new 66 models. My dad came unglued when that truck was driven up out of the building. The front fenders and hood were a dark gold almost brown and the rest was a lighter gold color. I remember riding home in the fresh black painted floor and the truck smelling new. Ended up my truck to use in high school but was not my daily car just my everything else car building hobby vehicle for 7 years. I even learned to drive in it when I was 13 with my dad.
OK that color was so inconsistent in uniformity about anything could be correct. Your 66 looks like my dad's looked for color.
Have you had a paint rep use their color match equipment to formulate something close to the original yet? I am taking two take off mirror bases over Wednesday to see if there is enough surface to try. With a red oxide color primer in the thin areas it maybe a fruitless endeavour.
