My buddy's dad had a Korean war era Duece and a Half crane with a 302 GMC in it, with nothing but a stock exhaust manifold and a few feet of plumbing pipe ran up through the hood. Some sort of ancient two-barrel fed the thing, and it screamed like a drunken prom date. Never forgot the heart-poiunding sound of that old beast.

It went about 45, and broke my buddy's thumb trying to steer it a logging road once...

The motor's since been rebuilt, and I hear it powers a small commercial log tug around Puget Sound.

I imagine the crane is still rotting in the misty woods of Columbia County.
