Yes people use them for donors/parts
Check out captainfab on the boards. He sells brackets that can help with the process of getting the booster to match with the firewall.
I used a booster from the Astro Van on my Nova and I believe it was the 1993 Silverado for my C10 to convert to hydroboost.
