It looks like you cut along the edge where the "lip" meets the door panel, right? I tried that on the rear of my 4th door and wasn't satisfied with my results. So I tried cutting along the top of the lip for the front section. I still wasn't satisfied... I think next time I will cut inwards .25"-.50" or so... I know the one seam will be hidden, but I still feel like I want to metal-finish it to look factory. Either way, it's been a LOT of finishing work. I feel what you are saying about all the fabrication of all the complex little differences!
