Mine did the same thing when I replace the upper bearing. The problem is motlikely the lower bearing as that is which takes most of the weight I the shaft. I ended up just going with an ididit replacement column took basically the same amount of work and now I have 4 way flashers and a tilt column for much more comfortable driving
