You're right, they are not. I eventually plan to upgrade to 1/2" studs when I do the disk brake swap, but for now I am running
these acorn style nuts from Summit. They seat much better. They are about 1/2" deeper than the stock nuts so the studs don't come anywhere near the end of the nuts, but they still grab as many threads as the original nuts.
