Take it from someone who bought the $180 steering column. I will probably have an ididit or flamingriver by next spring. I've spent about $50 in parts to repair the column after the internals broke. From the factory, it had an internal wiring short I had to fix. Currently, when driving down the road, the inside of the column has some play in it that is very noticeable. The outer column is secure, so its definitely a loose bearing or some part of the internals is just not that high a quality.

So yes, just buy the $400-$500 column.
