It's currently sporting an Edelbrock 1406 which I believe is a 600cfm unit. I'm pretty sure the air cleaner will help along with a set of plugs. I will at some point be doing a service on everything.
One hindrance to better mileage may be the t400. It's a little HD for the 283. I also dont know what the PO was used to driving; he had 2 econoboxes in the driveway.
