If I was a guessing man, I'd say the door was whipped open by the wind and bent that area. I have a similar dent on my GMC. It is a common theme on an AD cab, I can't believe how many have that area creased or banged in from the door! Great work, I'm planning something similar, looks wise, for my 6.0L.
