307 crank will be cast. The 307 was the bottom line V8 replacement for the 283. All 307's were 2 Bbl, all small valve heads. It was the grandpa and grandma engine option.
Thinking was different back then. Car buyers, dealership folks making order decisions were likely born during or before the depression. Money was seldom spent for ANYthing luxurious. A pickup with a V8 was nearly a scandalous thought, much less going ahead with the purchase...
